“WIG Cambodia was founded in the early 90's with the objective of providing an opportunity for women to meet and socialise and, at the same time, provide help to the vulnerable women and children of Cambodia wherever we could. We are a women's only members group who bring a diversity of resources and experiences together for social, cultural and educational enhancement. We raise funds through a variety of activities and donate these funds via grants to worthy community projects in Cambodia.”
The WIG Community Fund (WCF) is the primary vehicle used to provide highly needed financial support for small scale initiatives typically implemented by formal and, informal NGO's. The WIG Christmas Fair is one of the most popular events on Phnom Penh's social calendar and is our most important fund-raiser for the WCF, and also provides a wonderful opportunity to promote the work of WIG.
“In addition to the fund-raising and other charitable works that we do, in a large part, WIG is very much about socialising and having fun too. Throughout the year we organise numerous activities and events that any member can join in with. Some of the regular ones include lunches, sundowner trips, coffee mornings and, educational visits. There are also special interest groups who regularly meet for Bridge, Mahjong, Tennis, and more. If you would like to join and promote a new activity we welcome all new opportunities and ideas!“
Our most regular meeting is our Chatterbox Coffee Morning held every Thursday between 9:30 a.m and 11:30 a.m at Java Cafe, #56 Sihanouk Boulevard, Phnom Penh, where many of our current members can be found. With 100+ members in total you can be sure to find someone who can help with info and intel on Cambodia and, for those of you who are new to the country; help with settling in too.
